EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR DIASPORA GROUPS
Located at Kibbutz Gezer, Pinat Shorashim has a number of different sections or corners, each allowing for another educational "point of entry." Still in the process of expanding, each entry point has an educational message designed to give new and creative meaning to Jewish text, tradition, and ritual. In this way one's relationship to Jewish expression and lifestyle may begin to take on new meaning. Examples of some of our educational programs, include:

Chevruta Style Tour of Pinat Shorashim.
Based on the chevruta (partner) learning style, participants will study Jewish sources and the physical environment connected to the various corners of Pinat Shorashim. After studying in and about one particular educational station, chevruta partners will come together for a tour, which they themselves will lead in order to share ideas, thoughts and various perspectives about the Biblical text and sculptures found throughout the park. A Pinat Shorashim educator will serve as guide, adding relevant information and answering specific questions about the use of the various corners.

Havdalah: Distinguishing Between Israel and the Diaspora
In this creative adaptation of the traditional ceremony we use our Havdalah herb garden with wine and candles to make the distinction between the sacred and the ordinary. Specifically we distinguish between sacred time spent in Israel/Eretz HaKodesh, and the time of Chul/the Diaspora. As we are a convenient 15-minute drive from Ben Gurion Airport, a stop at Pinat Shorashim can provide a meaningful opportunity to say "Shalom v'l'hitraot."

Legacy Building Project
Pinat Shorashim is an ongoing, hands-on program where work projects not only educate, but also produce modules for use with others. Each group learns not only through their own work, but also from previous participants - at the same time, building for the future. Activities may involve mixing concrete, working with mosaic, gardening and other work. Through this hands-on, fun educational activity, visiting groups, like others before them, can leave their own legacies in Israel. Groups are invited to participate in a half-day educational program and Legacy Building Project, during which they may create beautiful tiles to be added to the mosaic floor covering our outdoor sanctuary, or contribute to another section of the park. Creative Tefilot
Whether sitting in the intimate "Song of Songs Corner," considering one of the many interpretations of the poetic story of King Solomon, who originally built Gezer, or contemplating Pirkei Avot (The Ethics of our Fathers) in our "Garden of the Sages" - we feel that tefilot (prayers) and Jewish learning are creative experiences, with the potential to engage all the senses. At Pinat Shorashim, we use discussion, stories, meditation and music to make worship a meaningful, spiritual, and educational experience. We also focus specifically on the connection between various teflilot and the Land of Israel.

The Role of Zion in Jewish Life
In this discussion activity, we explore and develop the idea of the centrality of the Land of Israel in Jewish life. Looking at Judaism as a culture, religion, civilization, nation, and people, we strive to better understand the historical and contemporary role Zion plays as the spiritual center of the world Jewish community. This creative and engaging dialogue program probes the works and words of respected Jewish thinkers including, Theodore Herzl, Nachman of Bratslov, Mordechi Kaplan, and A.D. Gordon, while also considering text from Tanach, Talmud and Midrash.

Kibbutz: The Search for Spirituality in a Secular Society
Shattering the stereotypes of kibbutz as simply a socialist farm, Pinat Shorashim educators examine the factors that make kibbutz a dynamic Jewish community based on equality and democracy. We look at kibbutz with an emphasis on its development physically, educationally, economically, and spiritually, and critically analyze the difficulties and challenges facing this unusual society. We explore how the "secular" society of Kibbutz Gezer strives to create a meaningful and spiritual Jewish community.

Kabbalat Shabbat in Nature
Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming the Sabbath)… Based on the recognition that ritual is one of the primary ways that collective Jewish memory is transmitted, this hands-on program recognizes the agricultural link between the oil, grain and grapes and the Land of Israel. Nestled in a small stand of olive trees, the corner contains a gat (winepress) and a taboon (pita oven). Engaging participants in various rituals connected to the welcoming of Shabbat, we refer to the three blessings based on the oil of the Shabbat lamps, the fruit of the vine and the bread of The Land. Thus, this activity helps to develop an appreciation of the connection between Torat Yisrael and Am Yisrael to Eretz Yisrael, exploring how the Jewish people and their heritage are eternally linked to The Land of Israel. Deuteronomy 11:14: I will give you the rain for your land in season...you shall gather in your new grain wine and oil.ונתתי מטר ארצכם בעתו יורה ומלקוש ואספת דגנך ותירשך ויצהרך.

Tel Gezer: A Crossroad of 3000 Years of Jewish History
Pinat Shorashim sits on approximately 3 acres of land at the base of Tel Gezer. This ancient Biblical site offers an impressive introduction to 3,000 years of Jewish history, including King Solomon, the Maccabees and the War of Independence. Standing atop the Tel, it is possible to take in the multifaceted landscape and culture of the modern State, to view the intertwining moshavim, kibbutzim, villages and communities from the flatlands of the Mediterranean to the hills of Jerusalem. This exciting program provides a meaningful "Welcome to Israel" ceremony including the blessing over bread and the chanting of the shecheyanu.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Service
Using the beautiful, natural and peaceful setting of the Helzberg Bnai-Jehuda Outdoor Sanctuary, positioned in the heart of Pinat Shorashim, this service can be customized to meet the individual needs and desires of each group or family. In partnership with Rabbi Miri Gold of Kibbutz Gezer's Congregation Birkat Shalom, we work closely with the family or group prior to the ceremony in order to develop a meaningful lifecycle event.

תוכניות לבית הספר היסודי
קבלת ספר תורה
פעילות חווייתית להורים ולתלמידי כיתות א' ב', טקס של הענקת החומש בבית הכנסת בחיק הטבע. הפעילות כוללת תחנות חוויה ויצירה המפגישות את התלמידים עם סמלי היהדות, סופר סת"ם, סיפורי בראשית ויצירה. ניתן לבחור ולהתאים את התכנים הנלמדים.

התנ"ך בפעולה - כיתות ב' - ה'
הפעילות עוסקת בסיפורים ומושגים מן התנ"ך כמו - בריאת העולם, יוסף ואחיו ויציאת מצרים, שבעת המינים, שלמה המלך ותל גזר הלמידה באה לידי ביטוי במשחקים, דרמה, יצירה וחוויה. ניתן לבחור ולהתאים את התכנים הנלמדים.

הפסיפס החברתי - כיתות ד'- ו'
הפעילות בוחנת את מהות הקשר בין המושגים יחיד חברה. דיון בחשיבותם העכשווית של מושגים אלה וכיצד הם באים לידי ביטוי במקורות היהודיים. ערבות ומעורבות בחיי היומיום, שיתוף פעולה, נתינה, הבנת מבנה החברה והכרה בחשיבותו של היחיד כמרכיבים חיוניים לקיומה של הקהילה.

חגי ישראל - גן - ג' (מותאמות גילאית)
פעילויות החגים מלוות בדוגמאות חיות של צמחייה עונתית של ארץ ישראל ובשבעת המינים.

חנוכה - הכרת הסיפור ההיסטורי והתחקות אחר המילה "אור" והיכן היא מופיעה במסורת היהודית דרך פעילות יצירתית.

טו' בשבט - משחק משימות תחרותי בנושא משמעות החג, יצירת עץ המשאלות ונטיעות.

פסח - " ארבעה שמות - חג אחד " פעילות תחנות, בה נחשפים הילדים להיבטי החג השונים, לסיפור ההיסטורי ומשמעותו כיום.

שבועות - "בכורי קציר חטים" : הכרת שבעת המינים, סיפור מתן תורה, אפיית פיתות,ומגילת רות.

תוכניות לנוער ומבוגרים

סמינר בר/בת מצווה - לתלמידי כיתות ו'- ז'. מפגש רב-תחומי עם הנושאים המתעוררים בגיל המצוות. הפעילות עוסקת בבירור סוגיות רלוונטיות למתבגרים באשר הם, תוך שימת דגש על הפן היהודי - ישראלי. בין הנושאים: בר מצווה כטקס מעבר, הילדות מול הבגרות, קבלת אחריות, שוויון בין המינים, הכרת המסורת היהודית ועוד. התוכנית בנויה כיחידות מודולריות שמתוכן ניתן להרכיב את התוכנית המתאימה ביותר לקבוצה.

סיור חברותא - הכרת פינות הפארק תוך דיון ושיח בחברותא, בצוותים קטנים בני 5-4 משתתפים. הצוותים מתפזרים בין הפינות השונות, מקבלים דפי מקורות ומדרשים ובעזרת דפי הנחיה דנים ומנתחים נושאים הקשורים לנושא המרכזי של הפינה. בסיום שלב הלימוד העצמאי, כל צוות מסכם ומבהיר את הלקחים והמסקנות ובסיור משותף בכל הפינות, חברי כל צוות ישתפו את הקבוצה כולה בידע שרכשו.

סמינר למורים ומחנכים - סיור חברותא הבנוי על נושא ממוקד, כגון - שבעת המינים, טקסים ביהדות, מגילת העצמאות ועוד. הפעילות מתאימה לימי עיון לסגל ההוראה של בית הספר, המשתתפים רוכשים ידע לשימושם האישי והמקצועי וחווים את דרך העבודה שלנו ממקור ראשון. ניתן לשלב בסמינר כזה גם פעילות תוך בית- ספרית לפי צרכי הסגל.

יום משפחות משחק משפחתי של כתבי חידה ומשימות ברחבי הפארק העוסקים בנושא אחד. נושא המשחק נתון לבחירה - השבת, שבעת המינים, השלום, איכות הסביבה, חגי ישראל: ראש השנה, סוכות, חנוכה. ט'ו בשבט, פסח, שבועות.
יצירה אומנותית - להלן האפשרויות:

פסיפס אומנותי
משאירים חותם - פינת שורשים נבנתה ע"י אורחים רבים שהגיעו במסגרת תוכניות שונות. בפעילות "משאירים חותם" ישתתפו המשפחות בבניית רצפת הפסיפס בפינת שורשים. 180 דק'
תמונה בטבע - המשתתפים אוספים מן הצמחיה שבפארק, עלים ופרחים שונים, ומעצבים אותם על דף. יצירת האמנות מועברת במכוןנת למינציה והתוצאה - תמונה צבעונית ועמידה למים לתליה או כמפת שולחן אישית.
הדפס טבע - כל משתתף מביא חולצה טריקו לבנה ועליה ידפיס בעזרת צבעים מיוחדים הדפסי עלים ופרחים מן הטבע .

סיור מבוגרים
סיור מודרך בפארק שיכלול כ - 5- 6 פינות שונות (פירוט ותמונות ב"פארק"). 75 דק' ניתן להוסיף לסיור (או לבחור בנפרד) לימוד נושא נבחר, כגון - חגים, מצוות, מדרשים מוכרים, נשים בתנ"ך, סיפורי התנ"ך ועוד. הלימוד יהיה קליל ויתמקד על מקורות קלים ללמידה ואולי אף מוכרים, נושא הלימוד יתחבר אל החשיבה העכשווית במטרה להעשיר את הידע ולהוות נקודת פתיחה לביטוי עצמי של המשתתפים. פינות הסיור - לבחירה

סוכת השלום - מושגי השלום שהיו קיימים בתקופת שלמה וכצד הם נתפסים כיום.
שביל שבעת המינים - פרשנויות והקבלות שונות בין שבעת המינים לעם ישראל ולתורה.
גן ההבדלה - ערוגת צמחי תבלין וריח - מוקד להבנת "ההבדלה" כמושג חברתי ולא רק דתי.
הגת - הטקס כדרך לשימור והעברה של זיכרונות יהודיים משותפים. עצי זית ושדה חיטה, גת וטבון מסמלים את הטקסים הקשורים בקבלת שבת ואת שלוש הברכות שמבוססות על השמן במנורת השבת, פרי הגפן, ולחם מן הארץ.
גן חזון ישעיה - פרשנות נוספת למושג השלום כפי שהוא עולה בחזון הנביא "..וגר זאב עם כבש.."
סוכת "לכה דודי " - הכרת מקורות הפיוט והקשר בין השבת לכלה.
פינת גן עדן - הפרשנויות השונות של סיפור החטא הראשון.
באר מרים - הבאר מייצגת 16 נשים מהמקורות שהיוו דמויות מפתח חשובות בהיסטוריה היהודית.

תרומתן של נשים למורשת ומעורבותן החברתית משמשת נקודת כניסה נפלאה לעיסוק בנושאים כגון שוויון המינים, תפקיד האישה בחברה משתנה ו/או ביהדות וכיוב'.
